DiGiCo SD7 Gets The Green Light For Coldplay's Fifteen Festivals

DiGiCo consoles feature on a range of outdoor shows this summer, including Jessie J, the LED Festival, Judas Priest, the Killers and, of course, Take That. But with Coldplay headlining no less than 15 festivals around the world, Front of House engineer Daniel Green’s SD7 is probably the most travelled DiGiCo desk of all.

Coldplay’s busy summer includes headline appearances at Rock am Ring / Rock im Park (Germany), Jammin’ (Italy), Pinkpop (Netherlands), Glastonbury and T In The Park (UK), Where The Action Is (Sweden), Open’er (Poland), Rock Werchter (Belgium), Main Square (France), Optimus Alive (Portugal), BBK Live (Spain), Oxegen (Ireland), Fuji Rock (Japan) and Rock In Rio (Brazil).

Judas Priest Storm The Globe On Final World Tour With DiGiCo SD7

After storming the globe for nearly 40 years, JUDAS PRIEST, are going out strong as they rock the planet on the massive EPITAPH tour. Hitting all the major cities throughout the world on what will be their final world tour, the metal masterminds hit the pavement this past June throughout Europe, followed by U.S. dates from October through December of 2011.

Tending to the live sound needs for iconic rockers from Slash to Whitesnake for many years, engineer Martin Walker returns to the Judas Priest fold, with whom he has toured with for over a decade. The self-confessed analog maven has seemingly crossed over to the digital domain for good, favoring DiGiCo consoles for the past several years, beginning back in 2008 with a D5 on Priest’s ‘Nostradamus’ tour - prompted by the difficulty in finding an analog solution that could accommodate the band’s needs. In subsequent years, he’s used an SD8 with Slash and very briefly with Taylor Swift, and traded up to an SD7 this spring, working with another longtime production provider, Major Tom, supplying monitors and control for the tour.

DiGiCo SD7T Performs Multiple Functions On Ghost

21 years after Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore had young couples surreptitiously wiping away tears in cinemas (and briefly made pottery fashionable), Ghost has returned from the entertainment afterlife in the form of a West End musical. Combining live acting and music with complex lighting, video and special effects, the show’s sound designer Bobby Aitken specified a DiGiCo SD7T for Front of House mix requirements, which has allowed the team to stretch its remit to handling more than the audio.

Directed by Tony Award-winning Matthew Warchus, the show opened in July at the Piccadilly Theatre and is currently booking through until January next year. Working closely with associate Simon King and Ghost’s Head of Sound, Ben Evans, Bobby designed a system that had to work very closely with the other production disciplines.
